Training & Development

Training & Development is can be the lifeblood of organisations. Research shows that T&D gives a real and unique competitive advantage to companies, big and small. Employees cite development opportunities as key factors in attracting them to particular employers and in and convincing them to stay for the longer term. Even in today’s straightened times the cost (and risk) of recruiting new employees greatly exceeds that of retaining and developing existing staff.

However cost is clearly a factor in considering training these days – especially for SMEs. I have a lot of experience in creating, commissioning and delivering training and I have used that know-how to create and deliver a number of successful short, low cost training solutions to common business and management issues.

I have a lot of experience in commissioning, designing, and delivering training in a number of areas areas:

  • Managing Change
  • Managing Performance
  • Managing Discipline
  • Managing Dignity and Respect in the Workplace

Policy Development:
  • Dignity and Respect in the Workplace
  • Vision Mission and Values
  • Equality Policy
  • Stress Policy
  • Discipline Policy

Here are some of the programmes I offer – Most can be delivered in half a day

Managing Performance
Performance is of major concern to most managers, 84% of who say, when surveyed, that they are aware of performance issues in their area. This basic programme is aimed at ensuring that supervisors and managers can manage performance issues in a more confident and effective way. The programme consists of a series of exercises, role plays and practical case studies designed to allow participants to reflect and learn from real-life scenarios. There is a minimum of lecturing and slide shows.

Managing Change
Change is happening all the time in organisations. It may not always be a major step change. Often, in fact, it is a series of ongoing, incremental changes which, none the less, must be managed in an effective way. At the end of this programme participants will be able to:
Manage change as a “people issue” rather than as a business issue alone
Use a number of strategies to manage change in their own area
Understand the important role that the manager plays in managing change

Managing Dignity and Respect in the Workplace
This course gives managers and supervisors the skills to allow them supervise and direct staff with due regard to the legislation and guidelines on dignity and respect in the workplace. The course explains the main points of the legislation in this area and clarifies terms and expressions such as “bullying”, “harassment”, “racism” and “sexism” etc. Handouts are used to cover points of law and official guidelines but for the most part role play, real-life case studies and tutor-led discussion form the main learning tools.

Policy Development
It is always advisable for companies to have formal policies on important topics that may affect the business. Essentially policies are guidelines as to how various stakeholders (management, staff, customers etc.) in the business should behave in certain circumstances. For instance a simple and effective policy on bullying and harassment makes it very clear to everyone what should be done in the case of a complaint of bullying.

I have worked on developing and implementing policies in areas such as:

  • Bullying and Harassment
  • Bullying and Harassment
  • Discipline
  • Vision and Values
  • Performance Management
  • Workplace Stress
  • Equality in the Workplace

I would be very happy to work with you in developing similar policies in your company.
